Let's Dance [ECD]
David Bowie returned to recording after a four-year break with this relatively clean-cut 1983 album. Although offering another definite new direction for Bowie, with Nile Rodgers of Chic helping to produce a stylish post-disco dance sound, Let's Dance is a mixed bag. Much of the album's success was due to its three danceable hit singles--"China Girl," a sensuous Bowie/Iggy Pop collaboration, the distinctive "Modern Love," and the funky title track. However, much of the rest of the album is bland and vapid, marking the start of serious decline in Bowie's songwriting skills. A cover of Metro's "Criminal World" and "Cat People" are the only other strong tracks here. --James Swift

Pros & Cons :having the drummer and guitarist/producer from chic (tony thompson and the awesome nile rodgers) working on this obviously helped marry the two sounds together.

Pros & Cons :it's of course the drums of omar hakim and the excellent guitar riffs from than newbie stevie ray vaughn that bring the title song alive,which makes great use of both the mild dissonance and dance-funk flavors-basically just a more radio friendly variation of the sound you'd hear on a song like "fasion" from the previous album.

Pros & Cons :almost all the songs are the kind of uptempo rock music that we used to hear a lot of in the early 1980s and rarely do today and 'modern love,' 'let's dance,' and 'china girl' are among the very best songs from that decade.
